    Is there a reason not to just use the existing Last Name and First Name fields in ILLiad for preferred name only? If you don't have automatic user creation, this is probably what patrons are already entering; if you do have automatic user creation, you could probably have ILLiad bring in preferred name rather than legal name if those are different. If the patron is otherwise authenticated, it seems to me that collecting a non-preferred name only makes it more likely to accidentally show up on communications or paperwork, which might be jarring for the patron.

    In the short term, if you use IDS Logic to save copyright automatically, they can set whatever number criteria you like!
