  2. Recommendation system to suggest items to researchers based on users with the same research topic

    American Philosophical Society created a 1.0 version of a recommendation system for the Aeon web (called PAL - for People Also Liked) to show other items a researcher might want to request based on topics and requests in the system.

    This could be expanded into its own web service for recommending items.
