Update the Default Browser
Several of our library's databases don't play nice with IE anymore, so when searching for an article while in ILLiad, we have to cut and paste the link into another browser before we can continue the search. This would (hopefully) be eliminated if IE were not the default browser.

We are finding that when opening up a request in Google or Google Scholar that the link to the publisher opens up in a separate widow which is IE. In order to see the PDF we have to click on the tools button ,select open up in Microsoft Edge to obtain the full article. Also when selecting our "Find it" button, the link to the publishers site works the same way. Are we missing something here?

I am referring to new Google Scholar plugin that pretty sure is using Chromium needing right click and copy and paste functionality...with volume of requests it would be a dream not to have to open in separate browser then copy and paste from there

All of the links that open in a separate window should already be using the default browser. The v9.2 release on 3/22/22 supported an update to the internal browser for DOCLINE to Chromium.
There are some internal browsers that haven't been updated yet:
Addons are using (mostly) IE Browser Control with the exception of those mentioned in the v9.2 release notes. If there are any addons you would like to see updated, please contact support and we will address each addon on a case-by-case basis.
PoliciesDirectory & the citation displays (Z39.50, OCLC Form, PubMed Form) all use the IE Browser control as well.

It would be nice if the 9.2 framework browser now embedded in ILLiad included the address bar and ability to right click and copy links on page so we could paste in browser of choice.
We often send patrons a link that we find or want to put it in a note, so it would be nice to have more standard copy and paste functionality.

We updated to v.9.2.1 but when using the Policies Directory, the links to a library's web page or catalog are still opening via Internet Explorer. Is there a way to have the Policies Directory use Edge/Chromium?

Has it been determined if Atlas will use Edge or Chromium yet in the upcoming Illiad update?

To answer Jen's question, the default browser will be updated during the 9.2 release for any out-of-the-box features such as DOCLINE, Logon to Web, etc. If you are having any problems with any particular addons, feel free to send me a message at sjuel@atlas-sys.com. We have started updating some addons to include:
Google Search
HathiTrust
Google CombinedIf it's a 3rd party addon, we can try to contact the vendor. Since there are so many addons and not all Atlas addons are widely used, we are handling them on a case-by-case basis with allocating development efforts. If you are interested in making the changes yourself, I wrote some information in the post here: https://support.atlas-sys.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/1500000646662-Thank-you-for-attending-ILLiad24-. If you still have questions, please let me know.

I also do ILL for my library, and I think it would be much more efficient for everyone if they had another browser beside IE. It doesn't always allow us to do everything we need to do.

I do ILL for my library. An increasing number of library catalogs will not open in IE. That requires me to copy and paste the library website into Chrome. Then go back to the request to copy and paste the title. Back to Chrome to paste it in so that I can get to the holdings. Doing it for one library was an inconvenience. Doing it for multiple 'favorite' libraries is a hassle. Could we be given a choice as to which browser is accessed or could IE be dropped and Firefox/Chrome be used as the default browser.

Is there a fix for this (integrate a different default browser, such as Chromium) in the works, such as a patch or a new version release? If so, can you please provide a release date that we can pass along to our users?

Illiad opens holdings from other libraries in Internet Explorer (IE). Many modern sites do not render correctly on IE because it is so old. As of now, there is no way to change the browser Illiad integrates with. Please utilize a more modern browser such as Chromium or another Open Source alternative.

I'm so glad that Atlas will be working on setting a different browser by default in ILLiad!
I do want to throw in that I hope you'll consider looking at Firefox after all. With so many users focusing on Chrome, many site developers are starting to focus solely on functionality in Chrome and not referring to official web standards, essentially allowing Google to set the standards for what the web looks like. As a librarian, I feel it's important to focus on open source rather than proprietary options and to prioritize options that better respect user privacy.

Yay! Thank you for the update, Sara! One detail we would need to know is if all addons available in the ILLiad Addon Directory will be rewritten by Atlas Systems or if individual libraries will need to re-write their own to use a different browser (and what support Atlas may be able to provide for that -- a sample script or copy/paste script). No need to have the answer now, but since the browser is mostly used through addons, this is a significant need. Thanks!

Hello all, thank you for showing interest in this enhancement idea. The product team has decided to update the default browser to either Chromium or Microsoft Edge Chromium in the next version release of ILLiad (v9.2) scheduled for the end of Quarter 2 2021. Atlas is still researching which browser type would be best.
To see an updated list of other features planned for the next release, check out the ILLiad Roadmap: https://www.atlas-sys.com/illiad-roadmap. I might be back with a question or two once we begin the development phase of the release.
If I have any additional updates on this feature such as a release date, I'll post them in this thread.Thank you again all for your upvotes and comments!

I think Atlas has said Edge with replace IE.
Please update ASAP!Docline plugin has stopped working here at UTHSC. Our ITS is pushing some deprecation ahead of Microsoft final end of life.

Please allow me to add my vote for this as well. Microsoft is no longer supporting IE, so this situation will only get worse. :(

Please, please Internet Explorer is not lorger working for several of the addons, I get several error messages before it kicks me out. I would be very helpful and a lot less frustrating not to have IE as the default browser. Thank you.

Please update ILLiad so that addons will open browser other than Internet Explorer. Thanks!

We've started to get Not Supported errors on some database & publisher sites, and I expect that will increase over time.
