  1. Provide automatic OCR for posted PDFs

It would be wonderful if Atlas could provide a way to automatically convert PDFs to a more accessible format by performing automatic OCR on the documents uploaded or scanned. Many of these PDFs are re-used when the courses are taught again, so it would be great if OCR could be done on all PDFs in the Ares folders.

  2. Deadlines for Request Submission

To combat the issue of instructors requesting material up until the start (and sometimes after) of the course, perhaps a deadline restriction can be set for open quarters / semesters to prevent last minute requests.

  3. Notes Field in the Course Record

Create a notes field in the course record to be able to add content such as if the course is offered online, deferred course, particular notes in regards to cloning or faculty preferences. In our case because our staff work on full courses, it would be useful to add their initials to quickly see who worked on it last.

  4. Way to clone several items into multiple courses (sections) at once

They have course designers contact them telling them they want course so and so set up with the items from last fall and there will be a ton of sections of that new course. So staff pull up one of the old courses, and select all the items and clone them all into each of the new courses one by one, which is very tedious.

Maybe there could be a better way to apply a shared list to a whole bunch of courses at one time?

  6. When importing items from another course, retain the custom sort order

If you clone a course, it retains the sort order. But when a new course is created and then you try to import items from a previous course via the web, it loses the custom order.

  7. Using virtual flags with courses

Being able to add a virtual flag to an item is really helpful. There are times when I wish I could flag a course as well. For example, sometimes work on a course starts before the actual course instructor is hired and we need to make sure to go back and replace a staff or generic username with the instructor once we have their information. Also, when courses are cloned ahead of time before the new schedule of classes is published, we sometimes have to change the course code (section numbers) so that our script adds students to the course…

  8. Upgrade cross listings to allow Ares to combine cross-listed courses and sections

Currently, when two course pages are generated by imported course and user data, instructors sometimes must add materials separately for each section. For example, for PHIL/RELI101, some students sign up for PHIL101 and others for RELI101. When this happens, the data generate PHIL101 as one course and RELI101 as a separate course, which means that the instructor must upload the materials for one listing and then for another. There is a similar issue with classes with multiple sections. It would be very convenient if the cross listing feature would set things up so that any action done in one connected…

  9. Add crosslistings to custom course search results

We include crosslistings in course counts for statistics and it would be helpful to see CourseNumber and CourseCode for crosslistings displayed in custom course search results in the client. Thanks!

  11. Option to multi-select courses and open them from search results

You can multi-select items and open them all. Would like the same functionality with courses.

  13. Enhance course cross-listing to include more course info and ExternalCourseIDs

Currently, course cross listing only shows a name and is accessible by students searching for that cross listed course number/name and finding it under the other name. It's not clear to the student that both courses are the same.
