Keep history with rightsholder instead of the most recent entry only
We would like to see a history of the communications with the rightsholder. Right now, we can only upload one document, which makes it difficult in those situations where Publisher A says "we don't own it" and sends us to Publisher B. We can only upload the final email for Publisher B. The next time we ask permission for the item, the item still says Publisher A, but our records say Publisher B. We can add notes, but they are not searchable, and then we have to recreate the process all over again. Having the ability to upload multiple documents…

Options besides 'Granted' or 'Denied' in Contact Rightsholder option
In a Fair Use situation, for example, a rightsholder has died and we can use it fairly, but there was no formal permission granted. We would like to have an options such as "Fair Use" and/or "Good Faith" that will help indicate that copyright wasn't formally granted or denied, but that we have a reason to use this item that is within the law.

Need to have more than one copyright permission template available
There needs to be the option of selecting from multiple copyright permission templates when initiating a permission request to a rightsholder. Currently you have to modify the request template any time you send a request for material in a different format (e.g. audio or video files or images). We need to be able to set up multiple templates for different purposes, then select the appropriate template to use at the point where you are sending the request. This should work in the same way as other Ares email templates, where you can select from a list of possible options/pre-formatted emails,…

Add a Copyright "Fair Use" check box to Ares web forms and functionality
Add in a check box to Ares web forms so that requests (instructors/faculty) can indicate they are using an eReserve item under fair use. Possibly route items that are not a fair use to a queue for mediation. I hear Leganto has something like this.

Make copyright fees based on "clicks" versus enrollment
Currently, Ares copyright through the CCC has fees based on enrollment in the course. That value can be determined by a number supplied for the course or actual Ares users signed up for the course.
However, there is no guarantee that all of those users will click on the item and view it. Several sites have requested that Ares use the "pay per click" model of copyright fees so that they are only paying for actual views.
It's possible that the per click payments could be higher than the "bulk rate" of course enrollment. I'm not clear if we could…

Automatic Cover Letter
We currently attach a cover letter with complete citation info & a copyright statement to all scanned PDFs, in order to maintain the integrity of the bibliographic information if the PDF is printed out. We would like there to be a way to generate this directly from the system!

Create simple hierarchy in Rightsholder tables
Allow for parent-child relationships in Rightsholder to better manage the relationships that we realistically have with publishers (i.e. better tracking and management of publisher mergers and acquisitions). It would also help reporting on publishers because there would be an established relationship I could query against.

View copyright fees paid per course
Would like to do a custom search for a course or list of courses and have the "Current Course Copyright" value show in the grid.

Ability to submit copyright orders in bulk for multiple sections
If each section has the same article, it would be good to submit it as a bulk request for all the sections at once versus each one individually.

Make item availability dependent on copyright being processed
The copyright process is a virtual queue, meaning that it can be processed at any point during the transaction. But there is nothing stopping a site from putting something up on the web before copyright has been verified.
It doesn't often happen, just because of the timing. And if something comes up, sites typically just remove the item. But some sites would like to make the item availability dependent on copyright being completed.

create mail merge function for Harvard Business Review permissions letters
Frequently, there are rightsholders who require custom permissions letters to be sent to them via PDF. the course information is in Ares, but there is no good way to merge this information with a mail merge template.

Add "merge" functionality Rightsholder Maintenance.
Currently there is essentially no good way to maintain duplicate records in Rightsholder Maintenance. I want to be able to merge duplicate records so that I can eliminate duplicates that have occurred because of staff turnover throughout the years without losing the copyright history on the rightsholder.

Update copyright fees for items under the annual copyright license as well
So that a site can say "it would have cost us $X if we hadn't used the annual copyright license"

Allow staff to decide if copyright information clones with request
If there is some sort of perpetual copyright license (the World Health Organization says their stuff can be used forever), it is helpful to keep that data when cloning a request.
