  1. Separate "Item to be supplied by instructor" from failed PDF uploads

    Currently, when an instructor tries and fails to upload a PDF, the item record appears in the queue "Item to be supplied by instructor." It can occasionally be impossible to determine which requests are failed PDF uploads and which the instructor genuinely intends to supply. If failed PDF uploads got their own queue, things would be much easier.

  2. Allow custom defaults for ItemType new item creation settings in the staff client

    Grinnell College would like the option to have new items that are created in the staff client to default to SER, instead of the current option, MON, in the ItemType field.

  3. Quickly and easily print a list of items from a queue.

    Staff would like a quick and easy way to print a list of items in a queue within Ares, without exporting a file to another program like excel. Perhaps first identify (a limited number of) columns desired in the printed list, as there are so many. If this could all be done in the client, with just a few steps, it would be great. Items would not necessarily have to be updated to another status, just printed. Or maybe update would be a toggle on/off option. the most important thing is to print the list.   4. PullSlip batch printing filters

    Princeton assigns courses to particular staff users and that staff user is responsible for pulling items in batches, just for his/her own set of courses. It is an issue for all staff users to place requests in the Awaiting Stacks Searching queue, because printing pull slips would print out slips for other staff members, who might not be ready to print. Using the MSWord filter could potentially remove these slips from the print queue, but the other staff member's requests would still be moved to In Stacks Searching, causing confusion.   5. Allow Instructor Tags to be a Shared Field on Shared Lists

    Our institution currently processes all of the readings for instructors. Thus, the vast majority of our processing happens in the Staff Client.

    We're using a shared list to manage readings for a course that has multiple sections. Previously, if a reading changed (or a link broke), we would open each course section (since each section has a different Ares course ID) and fix the problem. Fixing problems that way was time-intensive and inefficient - sometimes we forgot to change the problem in one section, but fixed it in the others. Now with shared lists, we can go to the shared…

  7. Ability to import citations from an Excel or Word document

    Submitted by ALA attendee: Many instructors drop off or email their syllabi. It would be nice if Ares could import the citations automatically from either Excel or by doing a screen scrape of a Word document, the way that Zotera does. This would save staff time on having to create requests from scratch.

  8. Enhance Custom Search / Grid Batch Options: Email, Tags, & Flags

    Staff users should be able to send batch emails from custom search results and other search result/appropriate grid lists. Staff users need to be able to remind large numbers of users about retrieving inactive reserve items and responding to unfilled "I will supply" items. These should be sent to the instructor and proxies designated with the course that owns the item record.

    Staff users should be able to batch assign and remove tags in these same grids and custom search results.

  9. Keep all tabs open when moving between processing sites

    We use multiple processing sites. If I have a search or an item record open, they automatically close when I switch to the other site. It would be great if that search or item record stayed active despite what site I'm on.

  10. Allow "% of work" as column option

    Add "% of work" to the column chooser for staff client queues, and in particular, course items grid view.

    Often, we have multiple chapters of a single work created as individual items. Having this % displayed would allow us to quickly total the % of the work to determine if it is in compliance with copyright policy. At present, we need to open each individual item record.

  11. Improve the performance of the link checker process

    Currently, the link checker routine loops through a list of all the URLs it needs to check and sends them requests one at a time. Since this blocks the process while it waits for a response from the web server, we could improve the performance of the link checker significantly by testing multiple URLs in parallel asyncronously.

    This will require some research to determine how many web requests we can make at once, since the limit may differ depending on the system, its configuration, or the domain name of the links being checked.

  12. Option for staff to get email when a new item is created

    Not at the beginning of the semester (which would overload staff), but later on when items are just trickling in.

  14. Automate update of client(s) during system update

    It would save a great deal of time during the update process to have the update of the clients included/automated. IT staff would not have to take further time after the main update to update individual machines (which can get quite numerous, the more staff that are involved in ares functions). thx:)

  15. Show item usage count from custom search

    Make it a part of the custom search but not in every grid result in the client.

    Sites seem to want this for reporting purposes versus processing.

  16. Show usage count in grid of items on clone course form

    When viewing items in a course to decide which ones to clone to a new course, seeing the item usage is helpful.

  19. ADA compliant staff client

    Staff would like to be able to change the size/font without the screens being squished. Currently, increasing the font size or resolution on Windows makes certain buttons and menu options not visible.

  20. Create a secure file upload method for client (using web platform)

    Currently the client uses FTP and it should use another method to increase the security and not rely on FTP protocols.
