Integrated OpenAthens Support
Build in support for OpenAthens without the use of Shibboleth or EZProxy.
Released in ILLiad v9.2 on 3/22/22.
Prior to v9.2, ILLiad only supported OpenAthens as an IDP using third-party SAML SP software, such as EZProxy or the well-known Shibboleth SP software. The native SAML Module included with ILLiad v9.2 integrates support for SAML authentication directly into ILLiad so that using OpenAthens no longer requires EZ Proxy or other third-party software. It isn't a full OpenAthens integration, but it should allow institutions using OpenAthens as an IDP to lay much of the groundwork that we need in place to have tighter integration later on.

This has also become a stumbling block at our University as well.

UCF will no longer have EZproxy as of 2021. We use OpenAthens as our method of authenticating users for off campus access and Shibboleth for campus SSO. SAML based authentication is ideal for passing user attributes, such as name, email, unique ID, and status/association with the university.
Please prioritize implementing SAML based authentication into ILLiad.

Thank you for adding this for a user vote--SAML compatibility is an absolute essential when it comes meeting the authentication needs of institutions and users going forward.

Excellent! We already have OA working with ILLiad at Millersville University, but it wasn't as smooth as it could have been. Built in support would be a big improvement and allow the customer to do the configuration work much more readily.

This would be wonderful. Our library is switching to OpenAthens along with the rest of our consortium. I've heard that several other large consortiums are also going to be moving to OpenAthens soon.
