  1. Enhance Custom Search / Grid Batch Options: Email, Tags, & Flags

Staff users should be able to send batch emails from custom search results and other search result/appropriate grid lists. Staff users need to be able to remind large numbers of users about retrieving inactive reserve items and responding to unfilled "I will supply" items. These should be sent to the instructor and proxies designated with the course that owns the item record.

Staff users should be able to batch assign and remove tags in these same grids and custom search results.

When staff users assign custom flags to multiple items and then look at a result list in Custom Search,…

  2. Make <#DLL> tag more restrictive so won't output querystring parameters if the action was the exit/logoff action (action=99).

UOttawa uses a language toggle JS button we put on their pages. If a user logs out and logs back in, the 99 form number is retained in the URL. If the user then goes to change the language, the JS will reload the page, within a separate web folder that houses the alternate language pages. Since the URL still has the 99 action, the user is logged off.

  3. Keep all tabs open when moving between processing sites

We use multiple processing sites. If I have a search or an item record open, they automatically close when I switch to the other site. It would be great if that search or item record stayed active despite what site I'm on.

  4. Need more granular staff permissions for the Ares client.

This has been a pressing need for us for many years, and never seems to make it into the development priority list. Collections librarians, as well as learning/curriculum support librarians are constantly asking for access to the Ares client in order to understand what kinds of materials instructors in their subject area are adding to their course lists. But there is no way currently to provide client access without also giving access to user's information as well. Also, we really want them to have "view only" access - not to be able to change or delete materials that instructors have…

  5. Send mass email to instructors via Ares client.

We'd like to be able to send a mass email to all instructors who use Ares i.e. create one email and be able to choose "instructor" as the subset of Ares users that the email gets sent to. This enables us to send out reminders and other notifications to all faculty at once.

  6. Make copyright fees based on "clicks" versus enrollment

Currently, Ares copyright through the CCC has fees based on enrollment in the course. That value can be determined by a number supplied for the course or actual Ares users signed up for the course.

However, there is no guarantee that all of those users will click on the item and view it. Several sites have requested that Ares use the "pay per click" model of copyright fees so that they are only paying for actual views.

It's possible that the per click payments could be higher than the "bulk rate" of course enrollment. I'm not clear if we could…

  7. Allow instructors to clone items from other instructors' courses

This is a common request from new implementations and also prospective Ares sales. Libraries would like for instructors to be able to access other courses from different instructors so that they can clone items to their own courses. This is especially helpful with multiple instructors who teach various course sections. Shared lists do not solve this problem for two reasons: the instructors would only be able to see a multi-instructor shared list of items if it was department-based, and if the instructors belonged to the same department, and if the department was filled out in the instructor's user records to…

  8. End of Semester report to Instructors

This came up at the Access Services Conference in 2017: It would be great to have one button that sends statistics for the semester to instructors like a 'end of semester report'. it would be a great marketing tool too, to share what the library supplied for their courses, how it was used, how much copyright was paid on their behalf maybe too.

  9. Want to have an ebook item icon vs just a weblink item icon for all links in the web

Right now all weblinks use the same icon. But for Ebook items some sites mentioned at the Access Services conference that they would like ebooks to have their own icon vs just a weblink icon.

  10. Addons to make Reserve items available in the ILS from Ares

At the Access Services Conference in 2017 there was a lot of interest in addons to make Reserve Items available on the ILS from Ares.
Maybe it could be possible to have some generic ones available in the Addon Directory or otherwise easier for sites to create that connection between their ILS and Ares?

  11. Allow instructors to place OpenURL requests without a course

At the Access Services Conference in 2017, several sites mentioned they would like Instructors to be able to place OpenURL requests without first having to have a course to attach them to. Maybe having a dummy course (similar to how there is a ValidationUser as a dummy instructor) for these items to live under until a course can later be created. It would be appropriate in this case for the Instructor to be attached somehow to the item so that the item could later be attached to a course under that instructor.

  12. Allow "% of work" as column option

Add "% of work" to the column chooser for staff client queues, and in particular, course items grid view.

Often, we have multiple chapters of a single work created as individual items. Having this % displayed would allow us to quickly total the % of the work to determine if it is in compliance with copyright policy. At present, we need to open each individual item record.

  13. Notes Field in the Course Record

Create a notes field in the course record to be able to add content such as if the course is offered online, deferred course, particular notes in regards to cloning or faculty preferences. In our case because our staff work on full courses, it would be useful to add their initials to quickly see who worked on it last.

  14. Allow the Instructor Item Tags column to show in the CloneItems table

The Item table tag allows for the Tags column to show, but the list of items in the ICourseClone.html page is in the ClonedItems table tag and that one doesn't allow you to add the Tags column. (resource: https://prometheus.atlas-sys.com/display/Ares/Ares+TABLE+Tag)

It would be nice to be able to include the Tags column there so instructors would see if they want to clone the tags or not, and can check/uncheck items based on what they have them tagged with.

  15. Automatic Cover Letter

We currently attach a cover letter with complete citation info & a copyright statement to all scanned PDFs, in order to maintain the integrity of the bibliographic information if the PDF is printed out. We would like there to be a way to generate this directly from the system!

  16. Allow staff to edit sort order from the client

Currently, when an instructor adds materials from the web form, they are given a default sort order of 0*. When we add materials from the client side, they are given no sort order at all and there is no way to add them. This ultimately creates two lists of materials, the ones with no sort order and then the ones with a sort order of zero. There is no way of fixing this, short of deleting the materials added from the client and uploading them again from the web form.

*When custom sort is enabled, the sort order will be…

  17. Flag/re-route items with current status "Item Available on Electronic Reserve" that have a blank Location field.

Occasionally an item with no URL or file will accidentally be routed to "Item Available on Electronic Reserve," for a variety of reasons. There should be a process that would run each day to flag these items or move them to an error queue so that they don't sit empty in a queue that appears to be finished.

  19. Ability to control where items route to when they are cloned on the client side

Right now, physical items always route to 'Awaiting Reserves Processing' when they are cloned on the client side. It would be helpful if they could be routed to the same queue that the original items are in. This helps facilitate cloning that is done for courses that belong to the same semester.

  20. Allow instructors to batch change/remove tags on the web.
