  1. Pass data to <#INCLUDE> tags

Templating engines typically allow a means for passing data between templates. This makes it possible to abstract repeated content that differs slightly based on its specific context. For example, breadcrumb navigation might include HTML list markup that only differs on each page by the page title and link of the last list item.

It would be helpful if data could be passed to templates in ILLiad using <#INCLUDE> tags. A simple solution for just string data might look like <#INCLUDE filename="[the filename]" data="{foo: 'bar', foo2: 'bar2'}">, and then the variables foo and foo2 would be available somehow in the included…

  2. Create Custom General Pages

Page templates like FAQ.html and FirstTime.html are helpful, but it would be nice to be able to create additional custom templates (e.g. Contact.html) that are served via the DLL and can make use of <#INCLUDE> tags. This would be similar to GenericRequest forms, but wouldn't require a valid session.

  3. Allow a setting on the google search addon to remove the AI summary results

The AI summary on the google search in the ILLiad tab creates useless clutter. Can a setting be added to turn off the AI summary, or include "-AI" at the end of the auto-search?

  4. The description for DocumentTypeOptions in Customization Manager is actually for the AddRequestReceivedViaOptions key

I went looking for where to update the options in the DocType dropdown, and found that the description for DocumentTypeOptions in Customization Manager is actually for the AddRequestReceivedViaOptions key! This is a very tiny thing that probably isn't causing any issues, but did really confuse me just now.

  5. Why You Might Need a USA VPN for GDPR-Compliant Database Access

    Hey everyone,

I’ve been diving into some compliance requirements recently—specifically around GDPR and how it affects cross-border data access. Something that came up, and I’d love your thoughts on, is the role of VPNs—particularly USA VPNs (https://fastestvpn.com/server-locations/usa-vpn) in maintaining secure, compliant access to databases hosted in the US.

If you’re managing or accessing data stored in US-based servers from the EU (or anywhere else, really), you know how sensitive things can get. Even if the database itself is GDPR-compliant, the way you access it matters too.

That’s where a USA VPN can come in handy. It helps establish…

  6. Alert statistics

Could ILLiad keep statistics on what Alerts on the patron web interface are clicked on to view? The various website analytics software my library has used over the years has not always tracked ILLiad webpages. Having consistent stats, easily accessible from within some part of ILLiad, would be helpful.

  7. Check for duplicate requests from user at the point of submitting the request form

We have a few users who frequently submit duplicate requests. While a routing rule has been helping us catch these, it takes staff time and would be better if it could be caught at the point where the patron is submitting their request. I think there are two parts of this:

First, if a user has a slow connection, it turns out to be possible to click the "submit" button multiple times, resulting in multiple identical requests submitted within seconds of each other. Could default web pages be updated to disable to disable the "submit" button after it has been…

  9. Request Renewal Without Assigning a New Due Date

Currently, staff must add an extended due date when requesting a renewal from the lender. This new due date appears in ILLiad and is visible to the patron. However, the lender may choose a different due date or deny the renewal altogether. If denied, the request reverts to the original due date. This can be problematic, especially during breaks, as patrons might see the extended due date and plan accordingly, only to find the due date has reverted, making it difficult to return the book on time.

Suggestion: Allow renewals to be sent to lenders without requiring staff to select…

  10. Add ShippingOptions dropdown available from Update Stacks Searching & Borrowing Receives interfaces

We need a dropdown with a controlled vocabulary to indicate outgoing shipping method/return shipping methods on outgoing Lending loans and incoming Borrowing loans. The ShippingOptions table appears to be a good option, but it's not available from either of these views.

  11. Rapid Local Sending Automatic Route based on Day of Week and Time

It would be helpful if requests sent into Awaiting Rapid Local Request Processing were able to move directly into Awaiting Rapid Local Sending based on time and day parameters based on when the ILL office is closed. For example, request pushed into this queue after 500PM Central or on Saturday and Sunday would move automatically

  12. Add User Note to the Email Template tag list

I would like to be able to include the "user note" from a borrowing request in the email template, "Question about your Request."

Often a patron will include a note or ask a question in their request. I will use the "Question about your Request" email template when I follow up with them. It would be helpful to have their original note in the email with the request information (title, author, etc.) so that my email to them makes sense.

Currently we can either pull over the "last note" or ALL of the notes in a request. Since we are…

  13. Make the Shipping Options field one that can be cloned

Many libraries use the Shipping Options field for the delivery preference of users. This is the field that is being used for API transfer of user delivery data from other systems. If a loan request is cloned, this preference is not retained and needs to be manually entered. It will cause problems if it is left blank.

  14. Increase font size. Increasing font size fosters a more inclusive and equitable environment.

In previous posts regarding font size, Atlas noted that the increase in font size was addressed. However, Atlas' solution to use Windows settings creates other issues. Using Windows to increase font size makes other programs that already have accessible font size lose some functionality. Also, using Windows to "fix" ILLiad's font size inaccessibility, loses page functionality in the client (e.g. the notes field in an open request are no longer visible on the page.)

  15. Update the ILLiad AutoRenewals Server Addon to send Rapid renewal requests as well as OCLC renewal requests

Now that Rapid can handle renewals, we're spending a fair bit of staff time having to manually open requests and send the renewals to Rapid (since as another UserVoice idea points out, there's a button to send all OCLC renewals but it doesn't cover Rapid, this is a particularly large amount of manual clicking).

The ILLiad AutoRenewals Server Addon (https://atlas-sys.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ILLiadAddons/pages/304644121/ILLiad+AutoRenewals+Server+Addon) has been doing a great job of sending OCLC renewal requests automatically for us. Could it be updated to include Rapid renewal requests as well?

  16. Allow request sent to repopulate current GUI

When working on Awaiting Request Processing the "Request Sent" button closes the current request and requires manual opening of the next requests.

It would be nice for the option to have "Request Sent" just repopulate the current UI elements similar to the already implemented arrows at the top left.

Perhaps with a small visual cue to allow for you to recognize its changed easily.

  17. Add NVTGC value to the Main Form of the Electronic Delivery Utility

If multiple EDUs are open on a PC and each is logged into a different NVTGC it becomes confusing later to remember which is which because nothing on the Form shows a NVTGC/Site value. Emory uses up to 4 on one PC so it is hard to know which nvtgc to use on the client logon if you have to investigate why a request/file fails to send

  18. Electronic Delivery Utility change to get requests to Process from DB rather than Folder

The EDU currently populates the list of request to process from the folder specified in ElectronicDeliveryUtilityImagesPath which for customers sharing a scanned files folder across NVTGCs can lead to files pulled in to the wrong EDU and the process fails because that NVTGC might not have access to the address or transaction record. Querying the In Stacks Searching or In DD Stacks Searching status and using that list to determine which files to pull from the folder will allow one ElectronicDeliveryUtilityImagesPath folder to be used across multiple EDUs running for one Shared Server group.

  19. Borrowing Received screen -- either make edits save or make clear fields that can't be edited

When receiving incoming Borrowing items through the Borrowing Received screen, it looks as though the user can edit fields such as the title, but this will not save on check in —only by opening the transaction can a title be edited. We usually note when something is a microform in the title so it's very clear to the patron. When on the Borrowing Receives page, it DOES save edits to Special Instructions, number of pieces, and checkboxes like we use for library use only.

Additionally, it will not save if the user clears info that was previously in the Special…

  20. Ability to remove print templates that are no longer used from user print configurations window (without editing the user.config file)

Right now, every print template a user has ever used will show in the user PrintConfigurations window. When templates are updated (especially just the same file from .doc to .docx) this can get lengthy and confusing. Right now, the only way to get these removed is to edit the user.config file -- but this isn't recommended, since it's easy to corrupt that file and cause major issues.

It would be extremely helpful if users could remove no longer used files from print configuration in an easier way.
