Course and user information comes from the load (overwrites Ares data) Course and user loads - changes to the user and course information loaded would overwrite the user and course information in the Ares database. There would be an option to prevent web users from editing their own user info and course info. Course and user info could be edited (overridden) in the staff client, but subsequent edits of the course and user info would not carry over after the client edits were made.

Remove tabindex=0 on elements that do not need focus the tabindex=0 should be removed from any elements that do not explicitly need to be focusable via tab. Screen readers users will be able to reach the text regardless whether it is in the tab order or not. It'll likely just confuse keyboard users.

Allow admins to mark some fields as required on item screen in staff client One use case we have now: We want the "Nature of Work" on item screen to be required in order to enforce staff's input in this field. It should allow admins to configure in the system which field should be required.

Make copyright fees based on "clicks" versus enrollment Currently, Ares copyright through the CCC has fees based on enrollment in the course. That value can be determined by a number supplied for the course or actual Ares users signed up for the course.
However, there is no guarantee that all of those users will click on the item and view it. Several sites have requested that Ares use the "pay per click" model of copyright fees so that they are only paying for actual views.
It's possible that the per click payments could be higher than the "bulk rate" of course enrollment. I'm not clear if we could…

Need more granular staff permissions for the Ares client. This has been a pressing need for us for many years, and never seems to make it into the development priority list. Collections librarians, as well as learning/curriculum support librarians are constantly asking for access to the Ares client in order to understand what kinds of materials instructors in their subject area are adding to their course lists. But there is no way currently to provide client access without also giving access to user's information as well. Also, we really want them to have "view only" access - not to be able to change or delete materials that instructors have…

Allow Full Proxy users to import courses from CourseValidation in the web If the Instructor is unavailable to import upcoming courses from Course Validation, it would be best if their Full Proxy users were able to see those courses that are in CourseValidation for the instructors they're associated with. Right now these courses do not show at all to the full proxies unless the have already been imported either by the instructor or by staff via the client.

Allow staff to edit sort order from the client Currently, when an instructor adds materials from the web form, they are given a default sort order of 0*. When we add materials from the client side, they are given no sort order at all and there is no way to add them. This ultimately creates two lists of materials, the ones with no sort order and then the ones with a sort order of zero. There is no way of fixing this, short of deleting the materials added from the client and uploading them again from the web form.
*When custom sort is enabled, the sort order will be…

Flag/re-route items with current status "Item Available on Electronic Reserve" that have a blank Location field. Occasionally an item with no URL or file will accidentally be routed to "Item Available on Electronic Reserve," for a variety of reasons. There should be a process that would run each day to flag these items or move them to an error queue so that they don't sit empty in a queue that appears to be finished.

Allow the Instructor Item Tags column to show in the CloneItems table The Item table tag allows for the Tags column to show, but the list of items in the ICourseClone.html page is in the ClonedItems table tag and that one doesn't allow you to add the Tags column. (resource: https://prometheus.atlas-sys.com/display/Ares/Ares+TABLE+Tag)
It would be nice to be able to include the Tags column there so instructors would see if they want to clone the tags or not, and can check/uncheck items based on what they have them tagged with.

Addons to make Reserve items available in the ILS from Ares At the Access Services Conference in 2017 there was a lot of interest in addons to make Reserve Items available on the ILS from Ares.
Maybe it could be possible to have some generic ones available in the Addon Directory or otherwise easier for sites to create that connection between their ILS and Ares?9 votes -
End of Semester report to Instructors This came up at the Access Services Conference in 2017: It would be great to have one button that sends statistics for the semester to instructors like a 'end of semester report'. it would be a great marketing tool too, to share what the library supplied for their courses, how it was used, how much copyright was paid on their behalf maybe too.

Allow instructors to place OpenURL requests without a course At the Access Services Conference in 2017, several sites mentioned they would like Instructors to be able to place OpenURL requests without first having to have a course to attach them to. Maybe having a dummy course (similar to how there is a ValidationUser as a dummy instructor) for these items to live under until a course can later be created. It would be appropriate in this case for the Instructor to be attached somehow to the item so that the item could later be attached to a course under that instructor.

Notes Field in the Course Record Create a notes field in the course record to be able to add content such as if the course is offered online, deferred course, particular notes in regards to cloning or faculty preferences. In our case because our staff work on full courses, it would be useful to add their initials to quickly see who worked on it last.

Ability to limit which status(es) batch item upload will work with They would like for the batch item upload to only upload files for items that are at specific queues, such as 'In Stacks Searching' and/or 'Awaiting Scanning.' They would like for it to work the way Odyssey Helper does in ILLiad. This is because the batch upload functionality automatically routes the item to available on reserves. Staff might still have to do a few things with it, such as finish copyright processing.

Make OpenURL importing smarter regarding possible blank values If an OpenURL string contains a field with a blank value, skip that field and use one of the later ones in the string that does contain a value.
