  1. It'd be nice to have active links in the location field for eReserves items (similar to how links are displayed in the Link Checker).

Therefore, there would be no need to open the item record in order to access the link, and it would also make it easier to copy/paste.

  2. Option to display course date and time in Ares

Is there an enhancement to be able to view class times in Ares? We want the ability to view when the class is offered in the quarter. Is it once a week class for 3 hours or do they meet twice a week for 1 hour? Students want the ability to check-out a book but keep during class and we are thinking about extending our check-out period to 4 hours to accommodate users who have 3 hour classes. When our IT imports the data into Ares for reserves, we want to see the class day and time they meet. It…

  3. Custom Paramaters for LTI integration to allow links to individual reserves items

At UMass Amherst we have an LTI integration between Moodle and Ares. Our support group gets frequent requests from faculty is to be able to link directly from Moodle to particular items in their Ares courses. It would be considerably more user-friendly to display a link in the LMS in the context of a week’s assignments rather than to have a single link to Ares (so that instructors then have to direct students to go find a particular resource in the eReserves items list for the course).

According the the Moodle tool tips on the LTI setup page, it should…

  4. Ability to control where items route to when they are cloned on the client side

Right now, physical items always route to 'Awaiting Reserves Processing' when they are cloned on the client side. It would be helpful if they could be routed to the same queue that the original items are in. This helps facilitate cloning that is done for courses that belong to the same semester.

  5. Users are created with stub accounts if not in UserValidation if the user can login via LDAP or RemoteAuth

When a user logs in via LDAP or RemoteAuth the first time, their account is created with their Username copied in the LibraryID field. They are shown the NewAuthRegistration.html page, but if the site is using CourseUser loads and the username is not in the UserValidation table yet, the user is stuck with a stub account if the site is passing through the uservalidation data as hidden in the registration page. Later, a user cannot come in via LTI (because their ExternalUserID is blank) and cannot come in via the webpages (they are still sent to the registration page, but…

  6. Monitoring length of time item is in "Awaiting copyright processing" virtual queue

It would be nice to measure how long items stay in the “Awaiting Copyright Processing” queue. Currently, when staff open an item in this queue and check for copyright compliance, if everything is ok, they simply remove the checkmark in the “Copyright required” box and the item is removed from the queue. However, removing the checkmark is not recorded in the “History” tab of the item. Therefore, I cannot see a way to measure (retrospectively) the time it takes between an item arriving in that queue (currently I look at the CurrentStatusDate to see when an item has arrived in…

  7. recommender services via JSON

include a space in the service request pages (openURLBook etc) that allow the query of json results to different recommender services based on mediaType (syndetics for books, bx recommender service for articles, etc.)

  8. create mail merge function for Harvard Business Review permissions letters

Frequently, there are rightsholders who require custom permissions letters to be sent to them via PDF. the course information is in Ares, but there is no good way to merge this information with a mail merge template.

  9. Sort in the “Import Items” view in the web application

It would be great if end users could sort in the “Import Items” view in the web application.

  11. Allow "% of work" as column option

Add "% of work" to the column chooser for staff client queues, and in particular, course items grid view.

Often, we have multiple chapters of a single work created as individual items. Having this % displayed would allow us to quickly total the % of the work to determine if it is in compliance with copyright policy. At present, we need to open each individual item record.

  12. Make item availability dependent on copyright being processed

The copyright process is a virtual queue, meaning that it can be processed at any point during the transaction. But there is nothing stopping a site from putting something up on the web before copyright has been verified.

It doesn't often happen, just because of the timing. And if something comes up, sites typically just remove the item. But some sites would like to make the item availability dependent on copyright being completed.

  13. Warning when cancelling a hard copy item if other courses still need it

When an instructor or staff person cancels a hard copy item, we need a way to know if this physical book is still needed on reserve for another current or pending course item. A popup notice or something like that would be very helpful.

For example, if a book is on reserve for several English courses, and one of the instructors decides to cancel their Ares item, we don't want to accidentally put the book back in the stacks since it is still on reserve for other courses right now.

We also wouldn't want to put a book back in…

  14. It would be helpful if the 'ValidationUser' could display as TBD or TBA instead.

It is confusing on the staff side, and occasionally, current courses might not have an assigned instructor yet, so students see the ValidationUser displayed on the course details page.

  15. Automatic Cover Letter

We currently attach a cover letter with complete citation info & a copyright statement to all scanned PDFs, in order to maintain the integrity of the bibliographic information if the PDF is printed out. We would like there to be a way to generate this directly from the system!

  16. Greater flexibility re: selection of document type in IRF/IRF edit forms

When an instructor selects the supply method in any IRF or IRFEdit forms, the document type for the item appears to be selected automatically based on the supply method chosen. For instance, Purchase selects the document type of Hard Copy; WebLink selects the document type of Web Page Link.

If we want Purchase to select for another document type, we cannot make this happen through the HTML code or through the Customization Manager (at least not that we could find). This is problematic when creating forms for new types of material, in which the supply methods given do not correctly…

  17. Print Course Reading Lists

It would be really helpful for a number of professors to be able to print a course reading list. The Export Course Info option produces a (not very well formatted) excel file that has a lot of extra system information that professors don't need. It would be nice for Ares to produce a Word doc (or something similar) that professors could download that lists just the course information (title, code, section, semester etc.) and the readings associated with it.

  18. Allow instructors to clone items from other instructors' courses

This is a common request from new implementations and also prospective Ares sales. Libraries would like for instructors to be able to access other courses from different instructors so that they can clone items to their own courses. This is especially helpful with multiple instructors who teach various course sections. Shared lists do not solve this problem for two reasons: the instructors would only be able to see a multi-instructor shared list of items if it was department-based, and if the instructors belonged to the same department, and if the department was filled out in the instructor's user records to…

  19. Allow routing rules to add a flag to an item but leave it in the same status

Allow routing rules to place a flag on an item while keeping it in the same queue. Right now if you try to do that, it routes the item into a queue with the name of the flag instead of actually adding a flag and leaving it in the same status.

  20. Flag items with user notes

When an instructor/proxy puts a user note in the online request forms, flag these requests with "User Note" or something similar, but keep them in the current queue. (This could be done in tandem with 17708071, which asked for the items grid to indicate when there is a user note.) Our instructors (unsurprisingly!) think that when they write a note, we are alerted to their note, but in many cases we never see the note, especially if they add the link or upload the PDF themselves.
