Improve the performance of the link checker process Currently, the link checker routine loops through a list of all the URLs it needs to check and sends them requests one at a time. Since this blocks the process while it waits for a response from the web server, we could improve the performance of the link checker significantly by testing multiple URLs in parallel asyncronously.
This will require some research to determine how many web requests we can make at once, since the limit may differ depending on the system, its configuration, or the domain name of the links being checked.

Option for staff to get email when a new item is created Not at the beginning of the semester (which would overload staff), but later on when items are just trickling in.

If importing items from another course, prevent instructors from accidentally adding to the old course. When importing from the old course, that list of items that displays shows the old course info which has an option to add items to the old course. Instructors get confused and add it to the wrong course.

Greater flexibility re: selection of document type in IRF/IRF edit forms When an instructor selects the supply method in any IRF or IRFEdit forms, the document type for the item appears to be selected automatically based on the supply method chosen. For instance, Purchase selects the document type of Hard Copy; WebLink selects the document type of Web Page Link.
If we want Purchase to select for another document type, we cannot make this happen through the HTML code or through the Customization Manager (at least not that we could find). This is problematic when creating forms for new types of material, in which the supply methods given do not correctly…

Print Course Reading Lists It would be really helpful for a number of professors to be able to print a course reading list. The Export Course Info option produces a (not very well formatted) excel file that has a lot of extra system information that professors don't need. It would be nice for Ares to produce a Word doc (or something similar) that professors could download that lists just the course information (title, code, section, semester etc.) and the readings associated with it.

Ares as an LTI Consumer The ability for Ares to send information via LTI to another system rather than just being a target. For example, the Avalon media repository system handles streaming media for reserves and it also used LTI. Faculty request items via Ares though. So, when a course is created in Ares, that information could be written into Avalon via LTI. Then sites could use the permalink from Avalon within Canvas.

Allow routing rules to add a flag to an item but leave it in the same status Allow routing rules to place a flag on an item while keeping it in the same queue. Right now if you try to do that, it routes the item into a queue with the name of the flag instead of actually adding a flag and leaving it in the same status.

Flag items with user notes When an instructor/proxy puts a user note in the online request forms, flag these requests with "User Note" or something similar, but keep them in the current queue. (This could be done in tandem with 17708071, which asked for the items grid to indicate when there is a user note.) Our instructors (unsurprisingly!) think that when they write a note, we are alerted to their note, but in many cases we never see the note, especially if they add the link or upload the PDF themselves.

Option to store multiple documents for a single item This keeps the site from having to manually combine them into a new single document for storage with the item.

Option to display course date and time in Ares Is there an enhancement to be able to view class times in Ares? We want the ability to view when the class is offered in the quarter. Is it once a week class for 3 hours or do they meet twice a week for 1 hour? Students want the ability to check-out a book but keep during class and we are thinking about extending our check-out period to 4 hours to accommodate users who have 3 hour classes. When our IT imports the data into Ares for reserves, we want to see the class day and time they meet. It…

When importing items from another course, retain the custom sort order If you clone a course, it retains the sort order. But when a new course is created and then you try to import items from a previous course via the web, it loses the custom order.

prevent instructor from making items available for dates outside the semester dates The student won't be able to see the item and the staff client forces staff to "correct" the dates anyways.

Prompt instructors for Date Needed by when importing/cloning requests The Date Needed By field provides important data for managing workflow and assessing quality of service provided by Reserves staff (i.e., what percentage of requests are filled by this date). We require this field when instructors submit new requests and would like to also require (or at least prompt for it) when importing requests from a prior course. Currently the Date Needed By from prior semesters clone, which isn't useful for managing workflow or for assessing service.

Create simple hierarchy in Rightsholder tables Allow for parent-child relationships in Rightsholder to better manage the relationships that we realistically have with publishers (i.e. better tracking and management of publisher mergers and acquisitions). It would also help reporting on publishers because there would be an established relationship I could query against.
